Samuels Jewelers

Samuels Jewelers, once known to its patrons as “The House of Lucky Wedding Rings,” was founded in 1891. The legend had it that if you happened to purchase your engagement or wedding ring from Samuels, you would be married forever (find Big Diamonds here).

Here’s another interesting fact: on February 15, 1915 the jeweler Albert Samuels has installed a 20-foot tall, four-sided clock (later became known as Samuel’s Clock) in front of his main store close to Market and 5th to honor the opening of the Panama-Pacific Expo. In 1941 The House of Lucky Wedding Rings has moved across the street to the Flood Building taking the clock with it. It’s still stands there to-day.

Albert Samuels opened his first store  in 1891 in San Francisco, and this is where the 100-year old tradition of serving fine jewelry customers began. The last two stories of the 3-story building on Market Street was occupied by more than 40 jewelers who were very busy designing and then expertly creating fine jewelry according to the most exacting standards. All of the first floor housed the Samuels diamonds store showcasing the results of the craftsmanship of the master jewelers. (Explore Wedding and Engagement Rings here).

Samuel Jewelers always felt that the most fine jewelry meant absolutely nothing without most excellent customer service. The story has it, there was a time when Albert Samuels discovered that one of his customers had been unintentionally overcharged for some minor routine repair. Somehow, he did not know the name of his customer, and, therefore, had to apologize publicly through the San Francisco Chronicle. Albert ended his letter pleading with the customer to return to the store to get back her dollar.

Nowadays, the company is committed to the same principles of customer service excellence, value and quality established by its first owner more than 100 years ago.
